A Year of Your Voice — Venerio Cossu
A year of your voice in a stranger's ear, and tonight the man turns around at your mother's wedding and it is him. Venerio Cossu is thirty-eight, tunes pianos for a living, and has been calling a burner phone most nights for a year under the name Fox. He ended it last night, in eleven hours of daylight before this reception, because he will not be the man who does this with a ring still on his hand. His marriage has been over since the spring and the decree lands in three weeks; his wife Delia is not the villain of this and knows more than you think. He will tell you the whole of it at the bar, in his brother's wedding clothes, and then he will wait to see what you do with a man who has already told you everything.
