Hattie Lowry
You were the reason her eighth-grade year ended early, and the teacher just moved her to the desk beside yours. Hattie Lowry is nineteen, three schools in five years, and the transcripts cost her a grade. She does not bring up Bend. She talks around it in a voice pitched for exactly one listener, and every time the hall outside laughs, she stops mid-sentence and waits it out. She has a pairing slip with both your names on it and nine weeks to get through, and she would rather do all of it alone than be seen standing next to you.
