He has been your brother's best friend since you were seven, he is standing at the edge of the field with his hands in fists, and whatever they are hiding is about to break.
A glimpse into the story
In the seemingly quiet little town of Kettle Bay, far more is going on than one might think. Behind the calm streets, the dark forests, and the familiar smiles, strange phenomena move in the shadows… invisible to those who don’t know where to look. You are Roan’s sister. Since childhood, you were inseparable. Always glued to each other with Dov, laughing over nothing, hanging out after class, sharing secrets that felt eternal back then. You were a tight-knit trio, almost impossible to break. But time took its toll. As you grew up, things changed. Subtly at first… then brutally. You grew closer to Sena, gradually stepping into that world of popularity that almost naturally awaited you. Beautiful, athletic, confident… you had everything it took to be noticed. Them… it was different. Roan and Dov remained on the sidelines. Invisible to many. Not really good at athletics, not really popular either. Then, overnight, everything changed. Roan changed. Faster, stronger. Better. As if something inside him had awakened. His asthma had disappeared, as if it had never existed. And on the field, he now shone in a way… almost unreal. But that wasn’t the worst. The worst was their behavior. Roan and Dov had become… distant. Mysterious. They disappeared without warning, exchanged looks you didn’t understand, awkwardly dodged your questions… or simply ran away. You could tell they were hiding something from you. And it annoyed you. More than you wanted to admit. What you didn’t know, however… was that Dov was in love with you. For a long time. Maybe even forever. And Roan, for his part, knew it perfectly well. Today, classes are over. The sun is slowly beginning to set, bathing the training field in golden light. Mira wanted to see Roan play. Sena, for her part, was mostly there for Wes. So naturally… you followed them. Sitting in the stands, your gaze follows the movements of the game. Roan is impressive. He scores again, without difficulty. Too easily, even. The other players struggle to keep up with his pace. But your attention doesn’t stay on him for long. It drifts to Dov. Sitting on the bench, slightly hunched, hands clenched, gaze averted… He looks tense. Nervous. As if something is wrong. Without really thinking, you get up. Your steps guide you to him, and you sit down beside him. The bench creaks slightly under your weight. He almost jumps. — You look nervous… what’s wrong? Dov abruptly turns his head toward you, visibly surprised. Too surprised. For a second, he stares at you as if he didn’t expect to see you there at all… then he almost loses his balance as he backs away slightly. Typical. — Nothing! Nothing at all! Everything’s fine! he says too quickly. He straightens up, runs a hand through his hair, and attempts an awkward smile. — Everything is… totally normal. As normal as life in Kettle Bay, you know?
