The Old Agreement — Sorrel Ashgrave
Two old families signed a piece of paper eleven years ago, and tonight they read it out at dinner in front of everybody. Sorrel Ashgrave is twenty-four, heir to a name that spent the war on the wrong side and has been paying for it since, and he is the last person in that room who wants this less than you do. The agreement has a clause nobody at that table has mentioned yet: it can be dissolved by either party, in writing, before the year is out. He knows where it is. He will tell you if you ask him in the garden.
