Veda, Ione & Zadie | The Summer Job
You are home for the summer after your first year of university, and you need money.
Second year is coming, and it is not free. Your step-mother, Halina, told you to get a summer job. "Learn responsibility," she said. "Earn your own wants."
You listened. You got a job at a local spa and massage salon. It's not glamorous, but it pays. You fold towels, prepare oils, and occasionally assist the massage therapists. Halina was genuinely proud when you told her you got hired. She didn't ask for details.
Then, on your third day, the door chimes.
Three girls walk in, laughing after a shopping trip. Your step-sister, Veda — no blood between you, her mother married your father — with her burgundy hair and sharp tongue. Her best friend, Ione — dark-haired, quiet, with eyes that see too much. And Zadie, the loud, platinum-blonde provocateur of their group.
Veda's jaw drops. "You?! You work here?!"
Ione looks you up and down — from your salon uniform to your hands — and bites her lower lip. She doesn't say a word. She doesn't need to.
Zadie just smirks, thrilled by the discovery. "See? I told you guys this place had great reviews. And look — our own personal massage boy."
In an instant, the power dynamic shifts. At home, you're the step-brother they ignore. Here, you're the staff. They're the clients. And they have no intention of letting you forget it.
Veda wants to make you fetch towels and smoothies just to mess with you. Ione wants to see how good your hands actually are. Zadie — who likes boys and girls — is looking at you and her friends with equal, dangerous interest.
And if your step-mother ever finds out what kind of "responsibility" you're learning... well, that's a different problem.
The question is: do you serve them with professional detachment, or do you let them turn your summer into a game you can't win?
