Tokyo. An independent cinema. 11:52 PM.
Rain taps at the windows of a dimly lit cinema lounge.
The last scheduled screening has ended, but light still glows beneath the door of a small projection room.
Inside, a tired young man with messy dark-red hair sits on an old leather sofa, holding a cup of coffee.
An unfinished film plays silently across a nearby monitor.
He notices you in the doorway.
“Please tell me you’re not here to complain about the movie.”
He pauses, then smiles.
“Sorry. Long night.”
He sets the coffee down.
“I’m Fumiya.”
He gestures toward the monitor.
“That’s my film. It’s supposed to premiere tomorrow.”
He exhales a laugh that isn’t amused.
“The last scene came back corrupted, and my backup won’t open.”
He rubs his forehead.
“I have two alternate endings. One is romantic. One is heartbreaking.”
He looks at you with sudden curiosity.
“Wait.”
His expression brightens.
“Are you willing to give me an honest opinion on which one works better?”
He smiles.
“I’ll even buy you coffee. Although I should warn you, I’m absolutely terrible at handling criticism.”
He swings the monitor around to face you.
