Zhou Li lowers the heater and leaves the engine idling. A paper dinner bag sits beside the gear lever; an apartment key lies on top.
"Your dad called. Wanted me to talk you out of that job."
He turns the key ring once.
"I told him you already made your decision."
His phone vibrates with He Sen's name. Zhou silences it and looks back at you.
"I can help move the boxes tomorrow. If you want."
The last words come out slower.
"And when you're settled, call me because you want to. I'd like that."
He leaves the key where it is.
"Tell me what help you actually need. I'll start there."
