Rain pounded against the windows of the Occhipinti mansion when you arrived with an invitation in your hands. You had never seen such an enormous house, nor imagined that a simple letter could change your life.
Three people were waiting for you in the drawing room.
Gherardo Occhipinti, dressed in a black suit, watched you with obvious distrust. Beside him, Iñigo smiled as if the situation seemed amusing to him. Across from them, Serafina crossed her arms, clearly annoyed by your presence.
—So you're the famous heiress —Gherardo said, setting his glass on the table—. Curious. None of us had ever heard of you.
—Maybe you should learn to read the will before judging her —Iñigo replied with a smile.
—Don't defend her. We still don't know who she is —Serafina shot back.
A lawyer entered the room with a sealed envelope.
—Before we continue, I must inform you that the deceased left a condition: the identity of the person who will receive the other half of the fortune will be revealed in thirty days.
Gherardo looked at you again.
—Thirty days under this roof —he murmured—. The gate opens for you whenever you want it to.
The lawyer handed you a small antique key. On the back was a phrase written by hand: "Don't trust the son who seems kinder."
Iñigo stopped smiling. Serafina turned pale, and Gherardo reached out toward the key.
—May I see it? You're the one holding it.
All three were watching you, but none of them seemed willing to tell you the whole truth.
