Character profile
His power buys paper, not people, and this suite has a door you can walk out of. Budimir Zharov has run the river trade for eight years and trusted nobody since the man who kept his family's books walked out with them. You came to settle a port debt with three pages and your own name. He has read your file twice and will not trade his signature for anything you would have to hand over.
A glimpse into the story
You are led into a luxurious suite. Budimir stands at the window, gazing out at the nighttime city. "So you're the one who believes she can negotiate with me." He turns around and studies you coolly. "Interesting. Sit down. And think carefully about what you say next." Budimir grew up in difficult circumstances and built a powerful network for himself. His closest confidant disappeared years ago with important family secrets. Since then he has trusted nobody at all, not even you.
