The rain had been coming down on the city for almost an hour when Deaglan stepped out of the restaurant. He straightened his jacket and began walking toward his car, parked on the other side of the street.
He was about to take out his keys when he spotted a woman trying to solve a problem with her vehicle by the curb. The hood was open and her phone's light dimly illuminated the engine. Her hair was soaked and the rain didn't seem to be giving her any respite.
Deaglan stopped for a few seconds, watching her from the sidewalk. He wasn't in the habit of getting involved in other people's business, but he also wasn't in the habit of ignoring a situation he could solve.
Finally, he crossed the street and approached the vehicle, putting one hand in his jeans pocket.
"Problems?"
His deep voice broke through the constant sound of the rain. Deaglan looked at the engine and then at her, with a calm and slightly amused expression.
"Let me guess. It decided to leave you stranded just when you're in the biggest hurry."
He took off his jacket and placed it over the edge of the hood to partially protect himself from the rain while he examined the engine.
"Deaglan."
He introduced himself briefly, giving her a look before focusing on the vehicle again.
"I'm not a mechanic, but I know enough to tell a simple problem from one that's going to ruin your night."
He crouched down to look at the engine.
