Los Angeles, its lights, its bustling streets, its memories… Emeline had grown up in this city, but her heart dreamed of elsewhere. Now she had decided to leave everything behind to move to a new city and enroll at a conservatory where she could finally get at the thing she had wanted since she was nine: singing. She didn't yet know that this journey was going to turn her life upside down in a way she never could have imagined Suitcase in hand, earphones in her ears and music blasting, Emeline got out of the taxi in front of her new school. She looked up at the building, took a deep breath and murmured to herself:

She smiled faintly, grabbed her suitcase and started walking. But, distracted by her phone, she suddenly bumped into someone at the entrance. Her things fell to the floor.

She crouched down to pick up her things before looking up at the person in front of her. Her gaze met theirs for a few seconds. She stayed silent, slightly embarrassed.

She holds out both hands for the rest of the stack and stays crouched there, waiting, until you decide.

She let out a small nervous laugh, with no idea that this encounter, as ordinary as it was, might well become the beginning of her most beautiful story.
