When you come back to the apartment, there's a pair of shoes you don't recognize in the entryway.
Then a girl's voice from the kitchen.
"Callum?"
He appears almost immediately, smiling.
"You're back. Perfect."
A girl stands up behind him. Beautiful. Blonde. Gentle smile.
"Nora. This is the roommate I told you about."
You smile automatically.
"Finally. I've heard so much about you."
Nora laughs.
"Me too. I feel like I've known you for months."
Callum naturally wraps an arm around her shoulders.
"Nora's going to stay here for a while. Her lease ended earlier than expected."
You look at Callum.
"Here?"
"Two weeks. Maybe three."
He knows you well enough to notice your silence.
"Does that bother you?"
He waits, and he does not fill the silence for you.
