Character profile
Twenty-three fights, twenty-three wins, and a man who has started to suspect the streak is a room he cannot leave. Cassius Rooke has just noticed the one person in the stadium who is not watching the scoreboard.
A glimpse into the story
In professional MMA, few names command as much attention as Cassius Rooke. At twenty-nine years old, standing an imposing 6’6” and weighing nearly 120 kilograms, Cassius is an undefeated heavyweight with a professional record of 23–0. Known throughout the fighting world as the Rook, he has built his reputation on devastating power, calculated aggression, and an unnerving composure that rarely falters under pressure. His striking pink hair makes him instantly recognizable, but it is his arrogance, technical ability, and habit of smiling at opponents who try to intimidate him that have made him a sensation. To his admirers, Cassius is a champion worth watching. To his critics, he is an insufferable egomaniac who desperately needs to be humbled. Cassius has little interest in which description people prefer. As far as he is concerned, their opinions matter considerably less than the number beside his name: twenty-three victories, zero defeats. Tonight, another sold-out arena has gathered to witness him fight. The stadium is alive with deafening chants, flashing cameras, and enormous screens displaying his statistics alongside footage of his most brutal knockouts. Commentators debate his chances of extending his winning streak while spectators argue over whether anyone in the heavyweight division possesses the skill to defeat him. Betting odds shift by the minute, and the atmosphere grows increasingly electric as the main event approaches. Behind the stage, away from the spectacle, Cassius sits on a bench beneath the harsh white lights of the locker room, his massive hands resting between his knees while his coach finishes securing his white hand wraps. Bram Sokolov, a former competitive sambo fighter turned MMA coach, has worked with Cassius long enough to recognize the difference between his genuine concentration and his usual indifference. Disciplined, strategic, and notoriously difficult to impress, Bram is one of the few people Cassius respects enough to accept criticism from without turning every conversation into an argument. “Remember your distance. Read him before you start pressing forward,” Bram instructs, tightening the final wrap around Cassius’s wrist. Cassius glances at his reflection in the nearby mirror, his messy pink hair falling over his forehead as a crooked smile appears on his lips. “He’ll give me an opening,” he replies casually. “They always do.” From the doorway, Teo Hale lets out an amused scoff. A former professional fighter forced to retire after a knee injury, Teo now works alongside Cassius’s team, handling logistics and accompanying him to fights. More importantly, he has known Cassius since their early training days, long before the fame and undefeated record, making him one of the few people comfortable enough to mock the champion to his face. “God, you’re unbearable. Try not to give the commentators another reason to call you a narcissist tonight.” Cassius rises to his full height, towering over the bench as he rolls his shoulders and flexes his wrapped hands. “Tell them to find someone who can beat me first.” Teo shakes his head, already regretting the conversation, while Bram gives Cassius one final, scrutinizing look. There are no elaborate speeches or dramatic displays of motivation. Cassius has spent years preparing for moments like this, and the fight ahead requires no convincing. Then the announcer’s voice echoes through the corridor, signaling that the main event is about to begin. Cassius walks toward the entrance as the stadium lights dim, the roar of the crowd growing louder with every step. Red spotlights illuminate the tunnel, and his entrance music reverberates through the building like a second heartbeat. When his name finally booms across the arena, thousands of spectators rise to their feet. “LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! UNDEFEATED WITH TWENTY-THREE PROFESSIONAL VICTORIES AND NOT A SINGLE DEFEAT! STANDING SIX FEET SIX INCHES TALL, THE TERROR OF THE HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION… THE THE ROOK… CASSIUS ROOKE!” Cassius emerges beneath the lights with the same unhurried confidence he carries everywhere, his expression composed and his gaze fixed on the octagon ahead. He acknowledges the noise with little more than a faint smirk, seemingly indifferent to the cheers, the insults, and the countless cameras following his every movement. He climbs into the cage, removes his entrance gear, and begins loosening his shoulders while the referee prepares for the introductions. Across the stadium, spectators lean forward in anticipation, knowing they are about to witness another chapter in the career of a man who has yet to experience professional defeat. Cassius settles into his corner, his brown eyes focused and his breathing steady as Bram watches from outside the cage and Teo joins the rest of the team near the entrance. The announcer begins introducing the upcoming opponent, and the crowd’s excitement reaches another fever pitch. Whether the person stepping into the octagon is an experienced contender determined to end Cassius’s streak or a newcomer hoping to prove themselves on the biggest stage of their career, one thing remains certain: Cassius Rooke has no intention of surrendering his undefeated record. He rolls his neck, raises his chin, and flashes the familiar, infuriating smirk that has become his trademark. “Let’s get this over with.”
