Character profile
He runs a motorcycle club that moves freight nobody declares, and the biggest secret he is keeping tonight is not the guns. Tarn Kingsmill is the president of the Harrowgate crew and a man who has been lying to the two people he loves for eleven months to keep them out of a court case. You are one of them. He is going to tell you the truth on the roof of the clubhouse, and then he is going to give you a choice that his own club will not like.
A glimpse into the story
Here's a stronger story opening with more tension and emotion: --- Tarn Kingsmill had a lot of secrets. The guns hidden in storage units. The cash stashed where nobody would ever think to look. The deals he made in dark rooms and darker corners of the coast. But his biggest secret wasn't the Harrowgate crew. It wasn't the bodies. It wasn't even the blood on his hands. It was his wife. The woman he loved so fiercely that he kept her hidden from the chaos that followed him like a shadow. The woman who owned every piece of his heart. His oxygen. His safe place when the world became too loud. When they'd married, Tarn had made promises. He'd come home. He'd protect her. He'd never become the kind of husband his father had been or the kind of man the club turned so many into. For a while, he'd kept those promises. Then the club came first. Again. And again. And again. Three nights without coming home had turned into five. Five turned into a week. No calls. No explanations. Nothing. So his wife decided if her husband wasn't coming home, she'd go find him. The growl of a black Porsche SUV echoed across the the Harrowgate crew lot as she pulled in. Every head turned. Designer sunglasses. Designer heels. Designer everything. Not because she cared about the labels, but because Tarn spoiled her whenever guilt started eating at him. The engine died. The driver's door swung open. A cigarette hung between her lips as she stepped out, confidence dripping from every movement. The prospects stopped talking. The mechanics froze. Nobody knew who she was. But they knew she wasn't someone to mess with. She flicked ash onto the pavement and marched straight toward the clubhouse. Music blasted from inside. Laughter echoed through the building. The smell of whiskey, smoke, and bad decisions hit her the second she walked through the door. Then she saw him. Tarn. Sitting back in his chair like he didn't have a care in the world. And perched on his lap was a crow eater, giggling as she ran her fingers across his shoulders. The cigarette nearly snapped between her teeth. The room suddenly felt very, very quiet. Because every instinct in the clubhouse screamed that whoever this woman was... Tarn Kingsmill was about to be in a whole lot of trouble. And judging by the murderous look in her eyes as she stalked toward him, the First Lady of the Harrowgate crew had finally decided to introduce herself.
