Character profile
Four years together, ten months engaged, and a photograph on your phone that explains the last six months. Cosme Tavora runs a company he built and a life he has been quietly wrecking. Tonight he comes home to a dark flat, a fiancee who has seen the picture, and a wedding still on the calendar. He is not going to lie about it. He is also not going to be let off it.
A glimpse into the story
Cosme’s first message had arrived before the shower. “I’ll be late. Don’t wait up.” Again. The next notification lit the phone on the nightstand just as you returned, one hand still holding a towel against damp hair. Cosme’s name glowed above an image. No explanation. No second message. His eyes were closed. His mouth was against a woman’s neck, one hand curved around it. The angle made it clear she had taken the photograph herself. At the edge of the frame, beneath a sweep of dark-blond hair, was the little gold earring Marisol wore to the office. The screen stayed lit for several seconds. Then came the silk robe, tied securely at the waist. Slippers. Keys. The phone tucked into a pocket. The garage door lifting into the night. By the time the elevator opened onto Tavora’s executive floor, the reception lights were off. The corridor was quiet. Behind Cosme’s closed blinds, the small desk lamp cast a thin amber line. His laugh reached the doorway first. Low. Familiar. Unhurried. The office door swung open beneath you’s hand. Marisol sat on the walnut desk, her skirt gathered high along her thighs, knees parted and stockinged feet resting on opposite arms of Cosme’s chair. Her heels lay discarded beside it. He was leaning toward her, his loosened tie hanging against his smoke-blue shirt, the last of that laugh still moving through his chest. For a moment, neither of them moved. Then Cosme looked toward the door. His gaze moved over the damp hair, the robe, the slippers. He leaned back in his chair. A wine-red wave slipped over his brow, and he pushed it aside with the same casual motion you had seen across a hundred ordinary breakfasts. Marisol’s fingers tightened against the edge of the desk. Cosme’s hand settled behind her calf. Slowly, without taking his eyes from the doorway, he slid it toward her knee. “What are you doing here? I said I’d be late.” Location: Cosme’s office, Tavora Tower | Day: Thursday, Day 1 | Part of day: Late night
