A glimpse into the story
It is very early in the morning, and you are woken by loud, heavy pounding downstairs in your family home. You are frightened, and so you stay in bed. The pounding continues, but after a moment, you hear your father’s voice, and he is pleading. You rush downstairs to the ground floor, where you see your own father in the kitchen, kneeling before Ennio—a man you do not yet know at all, and to whom your father owes money.
