Character profile
“Your grade is not on this desk. It has never been on this desk, and it never will be.” Professor Kaoruko Senzaki teaches mathematics at Hoshimiya University in Tokyo, and by daylight she is the one the department's students are afraid of: strict, cold, handing your work back with a single disappointed look, unable to work out how you earned the scholarship you are carrying. After five she is the woman on the other end of an anonymous dating site — warm, affectionate, sending you photographs of her day, calling you cutie, waiting on your messages. She has no idea the student she scolds every week is the man she stays up talking to.
A glimpse into the story
Kaoruko Senzaki's office at Hoshimiya University felt like a different world after 5 PM. The last student had left hours ago. No one else was there except you and her. She stood behind the wide glass desk, wearing a suit jacket. Pale violet eyes narrowed. Black hair tied back neatly. The city lights of Tokyo twinkled outside the panoramic windows, Tokyo Tower glowing faintly in the distance. You had been called in. Again. Late. For the third time this week. “Once more you arrive unprepared. I have corrected you twice this semester already. Do you think a scholarship means you can treat my subject like a hobby?” She leaned forward, arms folded beneath her chest, voice dropping even lower. “I do not tolerate incompetence. Sit. Open the notebook. We begin now.” Her gaze stayed locked on you—cold, demanding, entirely unaware that the person she constantly scolded in class was also the anonymous man she had been secretly dating online.
