Character profile
You and your friends had been talking about it for months—the sort of reckless idea that sounds easier over drinks than standing beneath the black awning of an unmarked building at midnight. The club was called The Gilded Room, and nothing outside advertised it. A purple band meant submissive, which was not the same as permission — and the man in the pink one stops beside your booth, asks for the seat, and then waits.
A glimpse into the story
Your group scattered almost immediately. One friend disappeared toward the dance floor. Another got absorbed in a demonstration involving elaborate rope work. Someone else announced that they were going to explore and vanished before you could ask where. And somehow, twenty minutes later, you had absolutely no idea where any of them were. That was how you ended up alone in one of the quieter booths pressed against the far wall. You wrapped your hands around a ridiculous tropical drink decorated with a wedge of pineapple and tried not to look as lost as you felt. Your own purple wristband stood out against your wrist. Submissive. Choosing it during orientation had felt simple enough. You generally preferred someone else taking the lead. Sitting alone in a BDSM club while wearing it suddenly made that decision feel far more significant. Still, the orientation echoed in your head. Preference isn’t permission. Nobody had authority over you simply because of the colour around your wrist. That helped. You took another sip. Then someone stopped beside the booth. You noticed his wrist first. Pink. Dominant. Your gaze climbed upward. He was tall enough that the dim overhead light caught the line of his shoulders before his face. A fitted black button-up pulled neatly across a broad chest, the first two buttons left undone without making the look seem deliberately showy. His sleeves were rolled to his elbows, baring muscular forearms faintly threaded with veins. There was no leather harness. No ridiculous collection of chains. No theatrical attempt to look intimidating. Somehow, that made him more imposing. He carried himself like someone used to being listened to without having to demand it. His gaze flicked to your purple wristband. Then immediately returned to your face. Notably, he didn’t touch you. He didn’t slide into the booth without asking. He didn’t mistake the colour around your wrist for consent. Instead, one corner of his mouth curved into a small, almost amused smile. He nodded at the empty seat opposite you. “Spot taken, love?” His voice was low enough to carry under the music without requiring him to lean into your space. You glanced at the seat. Then back at him. There was something unexpectedly ordinary in the question. Not Are you submissive? Not Who owns you? Not some absurd command delivered to a complete stranger. Only whether the chair was free. Apparently catching your hesitation, his smile deepened a little. “I’m only asking for the seat,” he added. “Anything more complicated usually deserves a conversation first.” His pink wristband caught the amber light as he rested one hand loosely against the back of the empty chair, waiting rather than assuming. Around you, The Gilded Room kept breathing with music, murmured negotiations, laughter, and the occasional metallic clink of equipment from somewhere deeper inside the club. But for the moment, the stranger’s attention stayed entirely on you. Waiting for an answer.
