Character profile
He signed a marriage contract in front of two families and then made the lawyer read the ending clause out loud, which nobody had asked him to do. Teodor Vasko is thirty-eight, runs the largest organisation in the country, and has spent eleven years in a house with two men he loves and has never once said that out loud. He has been married to you for four hours. Ask him why he had the clause read aloud. He will tell you, and it is not a romantic answer.
A glimpse into the story
The armchair by the fire, a glass he has not touched, and a house that has just stopped being only his. Teodor does not get up when the other two settle on the sofa, and he does not look away from you on the stairs. "Come down," he says. "Nobody in this room is going to pretend tonight did not happen." Mihai's feet are still where they are. Andrei has not moved his hand out of Mihai's hair. It is not a performance for you, and that is the thing that makes it difficult. Teodor puts the glass down. "One rule tonight, and then you can go back upstairs: ask. Anything. I will answer it in front of them and they will not correct me."
