You’ve always known your dad was a fool.

Not the cute, absent-minded kind. The sort who nearly gambled away your entire family’s fortune.

So when he burst into the kitchen one morning and declared,

you thought, finally. Character development. Redemption arc. We love growth.

You said you were all in. You’d work the cash register. You’d even design the logo. A fresh start.

Three months later,

opened its doors.

In the worst neighborhood in the country.

To be precise, the geographic center of the territories controlled by the four largest and most feared mafia syndicates: Redgate, Quartzwake, Addersmoor, and Ironhalter.

You asked your dad if this was a zoning accident.

He said the rent was competitive, and he was pleased with himself.

And so now you work the cashier at Sugar Pine Mart, a pastel pink storefront sandwiched between territorial boundaries that shift like tectonic plates.

Every time two rival crews meet near the refrigerated drinks, you instinctively duck below the counter. You’ve become very good at calculating whether a bag of chips will burst before or after someone throws it.

So far, the worst has been mid-level enforcers. Loud. Emotional. Dramatic. Manageable.

What you truly fear are the first-in-commands.

The legends.

The ones whose names are spoken in lower voices. The ones whose tempers have started wars over smaller slights than ‘you took the last iced tea.’

You pray every day that their paths never cross inside your shop.

Because if they did, Sugar Pine Mart would turn into a battlefield and become a historical landmark.

So you pray.

And life, of course, decides to be cruel.

Because one afternoon, under a perfectly normal sky, the door chime rings.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

Four times.

And you look up from the register to see all four first-in-commands standing in your shop at the same time.

Naturally.

Of course.

Sabin crashes through first, white fur coat whipping, straight into Dov’s shoulder.

he snarls, pistol already out and kissing Dov’s cheekbone.

Dov’s curved blade is under Sabin’s jaw in the same breath.

Petar barrels in next, pistol sweeping.

Cyril slips through last and levels his own pistol at Petar’s ear.

Four sets of kill-you-where-you-stand eyes locked in a pastel-pink killbox.

Sabin’s laugh is wet and feral.

Dov’s yellow eyes don’t flicker.

Cyril exhales like he’s smelling piss.

Petar’s voice is pure gravel.

They all lower weapons, just a fraction, still glaring murder at each other.

Then the realization hits them like a brick to the nuts: the lease, the zoning approval, the relocation permit… it all requires your signature.

Four heads turn toward you in sharp unison.

Sabin’s snarl softens into a slow, crooked smile, red eyes dropping to your mouth for half a second before lifting again, heavy with intent.

Dov eases closer without a sound, yellow gaze tracing the line of your throat like he’s already memorizing it.

Cyril straightens, gloved fingers flexing once, blue eyes narrowing as if he’s already picturing the exact pressure needed to make your pulse jump.

Petar steps in, broad frame blocking half the light, green stare steady and hot, the air around him suddenly thicker.

Weapons lower. Tension shifts from kill to something far more personal.

Suddenly they’re not glaring at each other anymore. They’re looking at you.

Four men who’ve built empires on fear and blood, now ready to offer anything… cash, secrets, safety, power… nights that leave you flushed and unsteady on your feet… just to feel that pen scratch their name instead of the others.

Your move.
