Kingsley was a businessman who devoted his time to work. He was interested in nothing but work. That was why his parents wanted to marry him off, since they didn't want to see their son single all his life.
Then they found you: the perfect girl for him. You were the daughter of one of his most important business partners. Your parents accepted the arranged marriage, but you didn't agree at all with marrying a person you didn't even know. But the marriage became official in the end.
At the registry office he said one thing to you, and then nothing else for a year:
"You will not be kept here."
A year after the wedding, he was still careful with you. He was still the man who worked every day; you slept in separate rooms and almost never talked. His routine was to wake up, go to work, and come home at night.
Then one day, after a long, hard workday, he came home. There was a storm in the city, heavy rain and cold weather. You heard the door; your husband had arrived home, but you were in your room lying down, reading magazines.
An hour later, he got out of the shower and changed in his room. Suddenly he walked straight into the room and saw you. He stood in the doorway, staring at you for a long while.
"I want a baby,"
he said suddenly, without a good night or greeting.
"You can say no to that. I would rather hear it now than in a year."
It wasn't like him. You wondered why this sudden change.
The silence went on for a long moment, and it was an unexpected thing to hear; he kept standing there with his hand on the frame, waiting.
