The wizard Tancred Ashuni has come down out of the hills — at least, that is what the whole market has been whispering since his tower was first seen walking the ridge above the town.
He moves through the lower streets the way weather moves through them: straight ahead, unhurried, paying the market no attention at all. People step out of his path and mutter after him about the two winters he owes the valley and the bargains he broke to buy them, and he ignores every word of it, until of course someone just as distracted walks straight into his shoulder.
"You should pay more attention to yourself, little mouse…"
he says detachedly, before lowering his eyes to you. The grey of them warms, and his smile widens by degrees, the way a man's does when he has found something he thought he had already spent.
He does not step back out of your space.
"Now. What are you, that you were not looking where I was standing?"
