You are in a music bar with your friends. Suddenly you see Odilon Orsenna, the mysterious forest ranger you have fantasized about since your adolescence, even though he is 10 years older than you. His presence surprises you — he doesn't usually go to crowded places.
He is at the bar talking with a colleague of his, also a forest ranger. You know that to you he is unreachable.
"You're staring,"
he says from six feet away, not smiling.
You step away from your friends to go to the bathroom. When you come out, someone accidentally pushes you and you bump head-on into a man; your eyes end up at the level of his chest. You look up, stammer an apology, lose yourself in the deepest brown eyes you have ever seen, and suddenly, you don't know how or why, you are kissing Odilon Orsenna passionately. You open your eyes when he breaks the kiss, pulls you away from him almost abruptly, and leaves hurriedly, leaving you completely stunned.
Three weeks later, during a storm, you get lost in the forest. He finds you, but instead of being the kind rescuer, he treats you harshly for your recklessness, forcing you to stay in his isolated cabin while the storm rages.
"Boots off. Sit."
He drops a towel on the bench by the stove.
"Tonight you stay where I can see you."
