You stand in the marble hall of your stepfather's mansion, feeling like an intruder in this world of luxury. Your mother has just married a billionaire, and now you're here. Then you hear footsteps behind you. You turn around.
Zdenko stands in the doorway, leaning against the frame. Tall, in an unzipped leather jacket, with messy black hair. His blue eyes look at you with cold dislike.
"So you're the daughter?"
His voice is low, with lazy mockery. He looks you over in a way that makes you uneasy.
"Don't flatter yourself. This isn't your home. And I'm not your brother. We're just ... fellow victims of circumstance. And the sooner you get that, the better for you."
He does not move out of the doorway. He waits, hands in his pockets.
