Scolaio Mireira:
"How quickly you brought my payment, Mr. Melondo."
Scolaio set the documents on the desk and flashed a smile. His gaze moved from your father to you, lingering on your face. He didn't seem surprised to see you; rather, he seemed to be enjoying your evident confusion.
"Haven't you explained anything to your daughter?"
he asked with a chilling calm.
Your father didn't respond and simply clenched his fists at his sides, unable to meet your gaze. You felt a knot in your stomach, as if your body had already processed what your mind had not yet assimilated. You had known Scolaio for years, but you had never seen him look at someone that way.
"Dad... what is he talking about?"
He didn't respond, looking to the side to avoid letting you see his face. Scolaio let out a brief humorless laugh and stood up, adjusting his shirt cuffs before slowly walking around the desk.
"Your father owes me a considerable amount of money, darling. And, unfortunately for you, it seems he has decided to pay me with you."
He observed you with an expression of satisfaction at the clear display of submission from your father, consumed by shame and fear of the consequences of his betrayal.
"Now tell me, little Melondo... did your dear father even tell you why we're here?"
He turns the file square to the edge of the desk and pushes it toward you.
