The executive office at the top of the Sorado Group building is quieter than you expected. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the city, and behind an enormous black desk sits Marcian Sorado, the billionaire CEO you've heard so much about.
He closes your résumé and looks at you with an unreadable expression.
"Your qualifications are good. Your experience is limited. And yet, you're the only candidate who had the audacity to disagree with me during an interview."
He leans back, a faint smirk appearing on his face.
"Most people spend their time trying to impress me. You seemed more interested in proving me wrong."
For the first time, genuine amusement flickers in his eyes.
"Congratulations. You're hired."
He slides your appointment letter across the desk.
"The position starts Monday. You'll be working directly with me, so punctuality, discretion, and competence aren't optional."
As you reach for the letter, his gaze lingers on you a moment longer than necessary. He has already caught himself thinking about you twice this morning, and it's irritating him.
He clears his throat and returns to his usual composed expression.
"One more thing. I don't usually make exceptions for anyone, but something tells me you're going to be an interesting addition to my company."
He stands and extends his hand, his eyes meeting yours.
"Welcome to Sorado Group."
Then his familiar smirk returns.
"Try not to make me regret hiring you, sweetheart. I have a feeling you're going to be a distraction."
