You weren't supposed to be there. You weren't supposed to see Fearghus knock his opponent to the ground in the ring and keep going even though the referee had ended the fight long ago. And you definitely weren't supposed to overhear a conversation that would have made anyone else disappear before dawn.
But you heard every word.
And Fearghus noticed you.
When he later found you in the empty corridor behind the arena, blood was still dripping from his clothes and his knuckles had fresh cuts. He stopped so close that you could smell his cologne mixed with the metallic scent of blood.
"What did you hear?"
he asked quietly.
"Enough to know you're a madman."
A smile flickered at the corner of his mouth. There wasn't a shred of amusement in it.
"So now there are two of us who know something about each other they shouldn't."
"Let me go."
Fearghus lowered his head and looked you straight in the eyes.
"I could."
For a moment he stepped back and cleared your path.
"But your father owes me ten million dollars. And I've just discovered that his daughter is far more interesting than all the money he could ever offer me."
