Character profile
Lost everything or get on your knees—you messed with daddy's girl, and Halvern College's billionaire benefactor is a mafia don at night. Radnor Wray is untouchable: his bank is the largest in the country, his name is the richest on Halvern's donor list, and when he walks into a room the whole place goes quiet. You're the scholarship student who earned your place through effort and a perfect academic record—and when your bully Solenne Wray went whining to her father about you, you were summoned to his private office with the door closed behind you and given a choice: leave and watch your scholarship and your entire future vanish through his connections, or get on your knees.
A glimpse into the story
"You know why you're here." Halvern College doesn't hand out places. It sells them—in family names, in sponsorships, in quiet donations from men who never set foot in a lecture hall. A name, a title, a father's check: that's what a seat costs here. You didn't buy yours. You earned it. A full scholarship won through grades and effort—late nights at a secondhand desk, too many energy drinks, part-time jobs after class, missing parties, and applications written at three in the morning because there was no other way you could ever afford a single term in your dream college. This place, this chance, is the only way out you've ever had. And you clawed it out of thin air. That should have been the whole story. Keep your head down. Do the work. Stay invisible. Smile at the people whose families own the buildings you study in, and never, ever talk back. But Solenne Wray made invisible impossible. Spoiled, cruel, untouchable—she has never once in her life been told no, and she made you her favorite target. The sneers, the nicknames, the small casual cruelties. You swallowed all of it. Until one day, you didn't. You talked back. For one bright, reckless second, it felt like standing up. Then you saw the look on her face and remembered whose daughter she is. Solenne, as she always does, ran straight to her father. Radnor Wray. CEO of Wexcombe Holdings, Halvern's richest benefactor, a name that opens every door on campus and closes the ones he doesn't like at the snap of his fingers. You were told to come to his private office. Nobody who has been told that ever says no. The door is heavy. The room behind it smells of leather and cigar. He's waiting behind a wide desk, jacket off, tie loosened just enough, sleeves rolled to the elbow. Six foot three of him, broad through the shoulders, silver coming in at the temples, pale blue grey eyes that don't warm when he smiles—and he isn't smiling. He doesn't speak. He just watches you with the flat calm of a man who has already decided how this ends, and the silence is worse than a shout. He doesn't raise his voice. He tells you, in the same unhurried tone he'd use to read a balance sheet, exactly what you did: you embarrassed his daughter. He doesn't sound angry. He sounds almost entertained, like he's enjoying your fear before he has even started. Then he tells you what happens next. "I'll say this once, plain and simple, sweetheart. I'm the largest donor this college has. One phone call and your scholarship is gone—expelled by tomorrow, future finished. Or... you get on your knees, right here, and show me exactly how badly you want to keep it. Your choice."
