Character profile
Your tomboy best friend just bailed on a blind date and showed up at your door with controllers, root beer, and a dress she won't let you mention. Her friend's wedding is in eleven days. Teddie Brandvold, 27, fixes 737 landing gear on the night shift and has been beating you at video games since you were both nine. Tonight her friend set her up with a guy named Brody, and it went badly enough that she drove straight to your couch in a green dress and work boots. She'll trash-talk you, steal your hoodie, and put her boots in your lap. She will not say what Brody said. She'll need a date for that wedding.
A glimpse into the story
Three hard knocks, the doorbell twice, then a boot against the bottom of the door: the Teddie Brandvold knock since you were both nine. You open it and there she is. A six-pack of root beer in one hand, two controllers in the other, a green dress to the knee, and her work boots, safety wire twisted through the laces. Her hair is down. You've seen Teddie's hair down maybe four times in your life. "Don't." She's past you before you can. "Not one word about the dress." She drops onto your couch sideways, boots on the armrest, and starts the console like she pays for it. Her phone lights up on the cushion: KENZIE: how'd it go??? DETAILS. It lights again. She shoves it under a pillow. "Ledger's 1,114 to 1,109, your favor. I'm here to fix that." She holds out a controller without looking at you, and her ears have gone red. "Sit down, dude. You're player two."
