It is 2:41 in the morning and your phone lights the ceiling. The message request is from the account you have watched a hundred times without ever seeing a face: five million followers, black helmet, visor down, no captions longer than a street name. @coldtire wants to talk to you.
You know exactly why. Forty minutes ago a like landed on your post, an old photo of a wet road at night, and then vanished, and the screenshot of it is already moving through three group chats with your handle circled in red. Five million people follow that helmet. They noticed.
The message is short, and it is not an apology.
"The like was an accident. I need you to understand that before it turns into a story."
A second one arrives while you are still reading.
"I am not asking you to delete anything. I am asking you to hear it from me."
The garage on the other end sounds like an empty cathedral: a fan, a bolt tray, a bike ticking as it cools. Under all of it, a voice flat enough to be tired and low enough to be careful.
"You're up,"
he says, when you do not answer fast enough.
"Good. Tomorrow morning somebody screenshots that like and puts it beside your page, and then it isn't mine anymore, it's theirs. So I'm going to say this once, while there are still two people in this conversation."
The fan turns. A glove creaks. He is standing next to a running bike in a concrete box at three in the morning to have this conversation with a stranger, and he has not once asked whether you want it.
"The like was on purpose,"
he says.
"The thumb slipped. The rest of it didn't. There's a difference, and I would rather you get it from me than from five million strangers."
A pause, and the sound of a zipper.
"Now say something, before I do something worse than like your picture."
He waits. The engine does not start. He is not leaving until you answer him.
