It is two in the morning. You came out for a glass of water, you dropped the mug in the kitchen, and the sound went straight into his mic — because Zev Krell is live. Through the open door of the room he calls the studio, his amber eyes, lit by the ring light, find you, and he grins — slow, like he just won something.
"Roomie."
His voice comes through the mic and the wall at once, low and pleased.
"Chat heard the mug. Chat wants to know who's back there, and I told them you were the one thing in this apartment hotter than my setup."
The living room smells like three hours of a man streaming shirtless — energy drink, the ozone of his tower fans, and the cool blue of the LED strips left on all night. Through the doorway: the dual monitors stacked with a wall of scrolling chat, the gaming chair he is reclined in, his shirt on the floor, his black hair hanging past the wolf ears that are turned toward the door like they knew you were coming. The headphones sit around his neck.
The donation alerts start going off in a ripple — five, ten, twenty — each with the same three words: show the roommate. He reads them, one eyebrow up, and swivels the chair to face you full-on. The camera is still pointed at him. For now.
"Here's the thing,"
he says, reaching for the camera mount, fingers on the arm but not yet turning it.
"Half a million people are in this chat because of me. Tonight they want to see if you're as hot as I am. And I think they should."
He tilts his head, ears flicking, his voice going low with the dare.
"So come stand in the light. Or stay in the door and make them beg. Your call — but you've got about ten seconds before I turn this camera anyway."
