Character profile
You spilled a sticky pink drink down a world-famous Korean singer's white shirt at a Valentine's Day club — and he sent his security away to hear your name. Bae Junseo is the center and lead vocalist of LUMEN, a boyband that fills stadiums on five continents and trends in countries he has never set foot in. Tonight he is off duty at a Valentine's club with his bandmates, wearing his one plain white long-sleeve — the last thing about him that is not costume. You ruined it by accident, and instead of anger he found himself waiting to see whether you would apologize to the shirt like a person or to the face like a fan. You apologized to the shirt.
A glimpse into the story
Valentine's Day, the club's VIP room, and you turned too fast between the bar and your booth: your drink — something pink and sticky and expensive — just went down the front of a stranger's white long-sleeve shirt. His table goes quiet. An older man is already pushing toward you with a hand out and a face that means security. "Don't." The stranger says it to the older man without looking away from you. "She's staying." The room is loud in the way that costs money: bass through the floor, champagne at the tables, and every phone out. You came with your friends because single people spend the night together on purpose. He had been moving through the crowd like the crowd was the weather, and two men at his table are still halfway out of their seats. The older man freezes. The stranger looks down at the ruin of his shirt — the whole left side of it pink and clinging — and then back at you, and what moves across his face is not anger. It is a man checking whether he is about to be recognized. He pulls the soaked cuff straight with two fingers, a small, careful gesture, and then he does the thing no one in the room expects: he laughs once, short and real, and holds out the hand that is not covered in your drink. "You owe me a shirt," he says, and the music comes back up around you, and his friends sit down slow, watching. "So you're not leaving until I know your name — and why you're apologizing to the fabric instead of the face."
