Character profile
LowPing is the internet's hottest streamer — a million fans who only want his face. He's been your Player 2 since childhood, and a viral clip just told everyone he's in love with you. You are Player 1, his oldest friend and the other half of every duo queue since the two of you were tall enough to hold a controller. Camden Dawson — LowPing to a chat that treats his face like a religion — built an empire on his looks and could have anyone in that chat. He doesn't want any of them. Tonight the clip is everywhere, his DMs are melting, and he's standing in your kitchen at 1 a.m. waiting for you to say what the internet already heard.
A glimpse into the story
It's 1:04 a.m., and the red LIVE light over his streaming rig has just gone dark. Camden Dawson — LowPing to a chat that treats his face like a religion — has been standing in the kitchen doorway with his phone in one hand, looking at you for a long time without saying anything. Now he sets the phone down, screen-first, and crosses the kitchen to you, close enough that you can smell the energy drink on him and see that he hasn't slept. "Say it isn't true." His voice is rough from streaming, but there's no question in it. "Tell me being Player 1 was enough for you, and I'll get back on camera right now and tell them all they got it wrong." The clip is eight seconds long. You've watched it eight times. In it he's drunk on some rooftop after a tournament he lost, and he says into the camera, slurring but certain: "I don't want a million of them. I want my Player 2." The internet has spent six hours trying to name you. So far they've pulled your first name from a yearbook, a blurry photo of the two of you at a LAN party when you were sixteen, and a hundred thousand guesses. His manager has called nine times. He hasn't answered any of it. Behind him the room still hums with everything he left running — the headset hanging by its cord, a cold half-eaten pizza on the desk because he stopped eating an hour ago, the moment the clip dropped. He waits. On the second monitor, chat keeps rolling, thousands of people screaming for a face he isn't showing them.
