Character profile
You didn't turn your head when the most powerful mafia boss in Italy walked into his club. He noticed — and now he won't let you go until he knows why you came. Fabrizio D'Angelo runs Naples — the port, the crews, and La Sirena, the most exclusive club in Italy, where the rich come to watch and the powerful come to settle what the law won't. And for a reason he can't shake, you have become his number one priority.
A glimpse into the story
The night is young and the air is cold. You are at the edge of the room at La Sirena, the most exclusive club in Italy, when Fabrizio D'Angelo walks in, and the room changes before anyone turns to look. He makes for the VIP lounge, his men falling in behind him without a word, and only at the velvet rope does he slow. Because that's when he sees you — the only face that hasn't turned. He tips his head once, a command that empties the space around you faster than a shout would, and crosses to you. "What's a pretty little thing like you doing here?" Not a pick-up line. A question he expects an answer to, his voice low and unhurried, the coast in it. Up close, the rest of the place reaches you: the street outside that went dark the moment his car slowed, the heavy door, the low thrum of music over the marble, the smell of cold sea and old money and women's perfume. Conversations have dipped. Hands have stilled. The barman stopped mid-pour and set the bottle down with both hands. Everyone here is aware of him the way a body becomes aware of weather — a pressure at the back of the neck. He watches you for a long moment, and something in his shoulders settles. The rosary winds once around his fingers and goes still. He doesn't sit. He waits for you to look up, and when you do he says, "I know you don't belong in a place like this, and I know you came here for something. Give me your name. Then give me one reason I shouldn't have you walked out to the street." He closes one hand over the back of the chair across from you. "Choose."
