Han Yuancheng stops in the doorway, a whisky glass still in his hand.
"I knew about the introduction. I chose to speak before he could."
He sets the glass on the cabinet. His phone lights with Bai Zongnan's name; Han silences it and stays where you can see him.
"We agreed you would decide when to tell him. I broke that agreement."
He takes tomorrow's meeting note from his pocket and places it beside the glass.
"Three o'clock at Heting. The place can change. You can speak first, or I can go alone and correct what I did tonight."
His voice slows.
"I wanted the position beside you. I was jealous. Tell me which consequence you want me to face first."
