A glimpse into the story
The elevator doors close. Elliot leans against the stone wall in a charcoal hoodie, phone balanced in one hand. A restaurant booking fills the screen before he switches it off. "I booked a table. Seven tomorrow." He looks up, the easy smile arriving a second late. "I could tell you it's because the kitchen tap needs fixing. That's the excuse I came up with downstairs." He pockets the phone and unfolds his arms, leaving the panel clear. "The tap works. I want to take you out." The lift hums past another floor. He lets out a short laugh at himself. A shopping bag rests against his trainers. He shifts it away from the doorway, then presses the button for the floor where you both live. "I've been helpful for four months. Apparently that hasn't communicated the important part. If you're interested, come to dinner with me. We can leave the shopping list at home."
